Even though the dictionary is based on Spanish from Spain, it is filled with new words adapted from the English language.

Even though María Moliner based her research on the Real Academia Espanola Dictionary, she enriched the Diccionario del uso del espanol with terms used on an everyday basis in the streets or in Media. Hence, it includes entries and expressions that are not found in the Real Academia Espanola Dictionary.
